About the Event
The Basler Herbstmesse dates back to 1471 and is the oldest fair of its kind in Switzerland. For two weeks, rides, food stalls and markets fill Barfüsserplatz, Münsterplatz, Messeplatz, Petersplatz and other squares in the centre, drawing around one million visitors.
The fair opens on Saturday 24 October 2026. The market on Petersplatz stays open until Tuesday 10 November.
Transport and chauffeur service
Several squares and streets in the centre are closed to traffic during the fair. Pickups and drop-offs are planned around the closures, with meeting points agreed in advance.
